March of the Penguins: Close Encounters With the Emporers

March of the Penguins: Close Encounters with the Emperors
Denver, Colo.—Nowadays, it’s rare to find something new in nature, but a newly found rookery of thousands of Emperor Penguins has been discovered, and Baobab Expeditions offers select travelers the chance to walk among these remarkable creatures. On this trip, guests travel to the rookery at Snow Hill, just a short cruising distance of the Antarctic Peninsula, to explore this region and the penguins that inhabit here. Passengers board an icebreaking vessel that is specifically designed to allow small groups of travelers to walk among the penguins in their natural habitat. An onboard ornithologist teaches passengers about the biology, habitat, and behavior of the Emperor Penguins as the ship crosses the frozen tundra. Helicopters are used to give visitors a closer look (but not close enough to interfere). Travelers visit during the rearing season, so they will be treated to the sights of young chicks waddling around, while mother and father fawn over their new young.
